The True Story of Christmas: Global Celebrations

The Christmas season is one of joy, unity, and reflection for Christians worldwide. Itโ€™s a time to honor the birth of Jesus Christ and the incredible gift of salvation. While traditions and customs vary, the heart of Christmas remains the sameโ€”celebrating the Savior who came into the world to bring light and hope. So let’s look at the True Story of Christmas around the world.

In Part 1 of this series,ย Theย Trueย Storyย ofย Christmas: Separatingย Traditionย fromย Scripture, we explored the origins of common Christmas myths. In Part 2,ย Theย Trueย Storyย ofย Christmas: Mythsย Aboutย Maryย andย Joseph, we uncovered the truth about Jesusโ€™ parents and their incredible faith.

Some cultures embrace vibrant, community-based celebrations, such asย Las Posadasย in Mexico, while others focus on quiet reflection, like candlelight services in Northern Europe. The unifying thread is the shared faith in Jesus Christ as Savior, which transcends borders and languages.

Yes, in the Philippines, the 9 dawn masses represent a novena as well. It is said that your prayer intentions will come true if you were able to attend all 9 days. I was never able to finish all 9 as they are crazy early at 430am. After mass, there are rice cakes with coconut shavings or “puto bumbong” sold near the church which are sort of an early breakfast treat. Hope you can visit the Philippines during Christmas season, Raymond! You will enjoy it. I miss these Christmas traditions a lot.
