Redefining Worth: Seeing Yourself Through God’s Eyes
Most of my life, I did not believe I was worth much at all. Whether it was a mother who didn’t think I would amount to much, a girlfriend who lied to avoid going out with me, or a first wife who left me for another man, I struggled with feelings of worthlessness. Although I believed in God, I was not spiritually mature and did not see how God valued me. That all started to change when I met Wendy. She told me things like, “You are the man I have been waiting for all my life,” and “God created you for me.” Over time, her love for me began to show me how God viewed me. So let’s look at redefining worth!
This post is about helping you shift your perspective—stop looking at how the world sees you and start seeing yourself as God does. You are so valuable that He designed you, created a purpose for you, knew you would sin, and still sent His Son to die for you. Now that’s worth.

The World’s Definition of Worth vs. God’s Truth
The world measures worth by:
- Performance – What have you achieved?
- Appearance – Do you meet society’s standards?
- Approval – Do others validate you?
- Wealth – What do you have to show for yourself?
The problem? These measures are fragile. They can be taken away in an instant, leaving many feeling empty and unworthy. But God’s definition of worth is completely different:

Appearance – Redefining Worth
Psalm 139:13-14 – “You made all the delicate, inner parts of my body and knit me together in my mother’s womb. Thank you for making me so wonderfully complex! Your workmanship is marvelous—how well I know it.”
→ This scripture speaks directly against the world’s obsession with appearance. While society pressures us to look a certain way, God’s Word tells us that we were personally handcrafted by Him. He took care in designing every part of us, making us exactly as He intended. Our worth isn’t found in how we look but in the fact that we were intentionally created by God.
Performance in Redefining Worth
Romans 5:8 – “But God showed his great love for us by sending Christ to die for us while we were still sinners.”
→ The world tells us that our worth is based on performance—on how well we succeed, what we accomplish, and whether we meet expectations. But Romans 5:8 reminds us that God’s love isn’t earned; it was given freely. Jesus didn’t wait until we were “good enough” to save us. He sacrificed Himself while we were still sinners, proving that our worth is found in His love, not our achievements.
Wealth and Status in Redefining Worth
Ephesians 2:10 – “For we are God’s masterpiece. He has created us anew in Christ Jesus, so we can do the good things he planned for us long ago.”
→ Society often tells us that our value is measured by wealth and status, by what we have and what we can offer. But Ephesians 2:10 tells a different story. It declares that we are God’s masterpiece—not something mass-produced, but a one-of-a-kind creation. Not only that, but He has already prepared a purpose for us. Our worth isn’t in how much we accumulate but in the fact that we were made for a reason and called to do meaningful work for His kingdom.
Our worth isn’t tied to what we’ve done or how others see us—it’s rooted in who God made us to be.

Finding Your Worth in God’s Love
The world constantly shifts its standards of worth, leaving many chasing an impossible ideal. But God’s love is unchanging. When you feel unworthy, remember:
- God designed you uniquely (Psalm 139:14).
- Jesus died for you—not because you were perfect, but because He loves you (Romans 5:8).
- You are chosen and have a divine purpose (Ephesians 2:10).
No matter what the world says about your worth, God has already determined that you are valuable, loved, and created for something greater.

Conclusion: Redefining Worth
Your worth is not determined by the opinions of others, your past mistakes, or the worldly achievements you’ve collected. True worth is found in the One who designed you, called you, and redeemed you. God’s love for you is so deep that He created you with purpose, knowing that you would need a Savior, and He willingly sent His Son to die for you. That is the ultimate declaration of your value.
But knowing this truth and living in it are two different things. To truly redefine your worth according to God’s standards, here are some practical steps:
- Immerse Yourself in God’s Word – Replace worldly lies with biblical truths. Read and meditate on scriptures that declare your worth, such as Psalm 139:13-14, Isaiah 43:1, and Romans 8:37-39.
- Pray for a Renewed Mindset – Ask God to help you see yourself as He sees you. Bring your insecurities before Him and allow Him to replace them with His truth.
- Surround Yourself with Encouragers – Seek out people who reflect God’s love and remind you of your true worth.
- Reject Comparison – Stop measuring yourself against others. God created you uniquely for His purpose. Focus on His calling for your life, not someone else’s journey.
- Speak Life Over Yourself – Make it a habit to affirm God’s truth over your life. Say aloud, “I am loved. I am chosen. I am valuable in God’s eyes.”
