Living a Life of Worship: Turning the Ordinary into Holy

Ever feel like worship is something that only happens on Sunday mornings, surrounded by instruments and lyrics on a screen? Let’s take a peek at what living a life of worship looks like.

You’re not alone.

For a long time, I thought worship was just about music. Singing during the church service, maybe lifting my hands (if I was feeling bold), and then heading home. But then I started to realize something…

Worship is so much more.

What Does It Mean: Living a Life of Worship?

Living a life of worship isn’t about constantly singing hymns or repeating praise songs in your head. It’s about living in such a way that your everyday actions bring glory to God. It means honoring Him through your work, your attitude, your words, and your obedience.

Paul says it best in Romans 12:1 (NLT):

“And so, dear brothers and sisters, I plead with you to give your bodies to God because of all He has done for you. Let them be a living and holy sacrifice—the kind He will find acceptable. This is truly the way to worship Him.”

Worship isn’t just something we do.

Worship is who we are.

My Journey: From Songs to Surrender

I’ll be honest—worship doesn’t come easy to me.

I’m not a natural singer. I don’t play an instrument. And if you were to ask me ten years ago if I lived a life of worship, I’d probably laugh awkwardly and change the subject.

But something shifted when I learned that worship was more than music.

I began to see worship in simple things—like reading Scripture with my morning Diet Dr. Pepper, praying quietly while folding laundry, or saying thank you out loud to God after a long day.

I’m not there yet.

But I’m moving in the right direction.

And that’s the point: worship is a direction, not a destination.

Worship Beyond Sunday

1 Corinthians 10:31 (NLT) reminds us:

“So whether you eat or drink, or whatever you do, do it all for the glory of God.”

That means everything counts.

  • Washing dishes with gratitude? Worship.

  • Holding your tongue in traffic? Worship.

  • Showing up to work with integrity? Worship.

  • Encouraging a friend who’s struggling? Worship.

If your heart is postured toward God, your actions become praise.

After the fire is out, gratitude rises—“Thank You, Lord.”

Practical Steps to Living a Life of Worship

Here’s where living a life of worship becomes doable. You don’t need a platform or to be perfect pitch. You just need intentionality.

1. Start Your Day with Purpose

Before grabbing your phone, say a simple prayer like, “This day belongs to You, Lord. Use me.”

2. Turn Tasks into Thanks

Say “thank You” while you fold laundry or mow the lawn. A grateful heart turns chores into worship.

3. Worship at Work

Serve your boss and coworkers like you’re serving Christ. Your work ethic can be worship.

4. Speak Life

Encourage someone today. Speak hope. Speak love. Our words can be a form of praise.

5. Sabbath Moments

Even if it’s five minutes—pause. Reflect. Be still. Let your soul breathe and acknowledge His presence.

6. Make Worship a Reflex

When something good happens, say “Thank You, God.” When something hard happens, say “I trust You.”

Those tiny responses build a lifestyle of worship.

A Challenge Worth Accepting

You don’t need to be on a stage to worship.

You just need to be surrendered.

Whether you’re changing diapers, running a business, comforting a friend, or standing in a checkout line—living a life of worship is about turning every moment into a holy offering.

So here’s your challenge:

Pick one ordinary task this week and turn it into an act of worship.

Invite God into it. Watch what happens.
