Background

On a Sunday afternoon, five members of my family were baptized. What a blessing it was! This poem is about my nephew who has told me he would be baptized everyday if he could. In Pennsylvania, on this 17 degree day, the creek is probably frozen over.

A chubby bald man with a goatee, wearing shorts and a t-shirt, stands from the back watching a tall, skinny pastor baptize a 9-year-old boy in a creek. A covered bridge is visible to the right in the serene woodland setting.
Witnessing a sacred moment in a tranquil creekside setting, where faith and nature unite.

Faith Flows in the Creek

In the quiet woods where the waters run,
A sacred moment under the sun.
A boy stands still, his heart prepared,
For a baptismal blessing, his soul laid bare.

The creek ripples soft, a gentle embrace,
Reflecting the light of God’s sweet grace.
A pastor guides with hands so steady,
The boy steps forward, his spirit ready.

An uncle watches, love in his eyes,
Witnessing faith under heavenly skies.
The covered bridge stands a symbol near,
A passage of life, a step without fear.

Through water and faith, new life begins,
A heart washed clean from all its sins.
Together they walk, the family and child,
Growing in Christ, pure and undefiled.
