The Illusion of Worth
They told me, “Climb higher, work harder, achieve more.”
So, I scaled the ladder, chasing accolades galore.
Each step promised fulfillment, a fleeting taste of joy,
Yet every triumph faded, a hollow, empty ploy.
I stared into the mirror, the reflection looked proud,
But beneath the shiny surface, doubt screamed aloud.
Trophies lined the shelf, but the weight pressed my chest,
The question lingered softly: “Is this truly success?”
In the night, I burned the candle at both ends,
Forsaking family dinners, the laughter of my friends.
The clock ticked louder as time slipped away,
What price was I paying for the games I’d play?
Satan whispered lies, “This is where you’ll find worth,”
While I neglected the treasures of immeasurable birth.
A spouse left waiting, a child’s empty chair,
What did I sacrifice climbing the stairs?
Yet in the quiet stillness, a voice called me home,
“Be still, know I’m with you, you are never alone.”
Success is an illusion, a shadow that fades,
True worth is in the One who fearfully made.
I laid down my striving, my trophies, my pride,
Trading worldly ambition for peace deep inside.
No longer bound by the chains of success,
I found freedom in grace and a love that’s endless.
