Proclaim the Gospel Message: Sharing the Good News
In part 2 of our series, Sharing Your Personal Testimony: Why It Matters (link), we explored the importance of having your testimony ready to share when called upon. Your personal story of how Christ transformed your life lays a foundation for a greater mission: proclaiming the Gospel message. As believers, we are called to boldly share the Good News of salvation through Jesus Christ with the world around us, we are to proclaim the Gospel Message.
In this blog, we’ll unpack what it means to proclaim the Gospel message, how to do it effectively, and why it is a central part of our faith journey.
What Does Proclaim the Gospel Mean?
Proclaim the Gospel message means sharing the story of Jesus Christ—His life, death, and resurrection—and the hope, forgiveness, and eternal life offered through Him. The Greek word for “proclaim,” kerysso, conveys a sense of declaring, heralding, or announcing with authority. This isn’t just for preachers; it’s a calling for every believer.
Paul reminds us in Romans 1:16 (NLT),
“For I am not ashamed of this Good News about Christ. It is the power of God at work, saving everyone who believes—the Jew first and also the Gentile.”
Proclaiming the Gospel is about pointing others to the saving grace of Jesus Christ with boldness and love.
Why Proclaiming the Gospel Message Matters
1. It’s a Command from Jesus
In the Great Commission (Matthew 28:19-20, NLT), Jesus commanded us to “go and make disciples of all the nations.” Sharing the Gospel is an act of obedience to His calling.
2. It Brings Life-Changing Hope
When you proclaim the Gospel, you are sharing the ultimate hope—the forgiveness of sins and the promise of eternal life. As Romans 10:14 (NLT) says,
“But how can they call on him to save them unless they believe in him? And how can they believe in him if they have never heard about him? And how can they hear about him unless someone tells them?”
3. It Glorifies God
Every time you proclaim the Gospel message, you are fulfilling your purpose as a witness for Christ, bringing glory to God’s name.
How to Proclaim the Gospel Message
1. Start with Prayer
Before sharing the Gospel, pray for wisdom, courage, and opportunities. Ask the Holy Spirit to guide your words and prepare the hearts of those who will hear the message.
2. Know the Gospel Clearly
To proclaim the Gospel message effectively, it’s essential to know and understand it yourself. The Gospel, meaning “Good News,” is the heart of our faith and the message we are called to share with the world. Here’s a clear explanation, supported by key scriptures:
God’s Plan: God created us to have a relationship with Him.
John 3:16 (NLT): “For this is how God loved the world: He gave his one and only Son, so that everyone who believes in him will not perish but have eternal life.”
Our Problem: Sin separates us from God.
Romans 3:23 (NLT): “For everyone has sinned; we all fall short of God’s glorious standard.”
Isaiah 59:2 (NLT): “It’s your sins that have cut you off from God. Because of your sins, he has turned away and will not listen anymore.”
God’s Solution: Jesus Christ paid the price for our sins through His death and resurrection.
Romans 5:8 (NLT): “But God showed his great love for us by sending Christ to die for us while we were still sinners.”
1 Peter 2:24 (NLT): “He personally carried our sins in his body on the cross so that we can be dead to sin and live for what is right. By his wounds you are healed.”
Our Response: We are called to believe in Him, repent of our sins, and commit to following Him.
Acts 2:38 (NLT): “Peter replied, ‘Each of you must repent of your sins and turn to God, and be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins. Then you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.’”
Romans 10:9-10 (NLT): “If you openly declare that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. For it is by believing in your heart that you are made right with God, and it is by openly declaring your faith that you are saved.”
Understanding and articulating these core truths is crucial. The Gospel is not about what we can do for God but about what God has done for us through Jesus Christ. When you know the Gospel clearly, you can share it confidently and effectively with others.
3. Use Scripture
Scripture is powerful and central to proclaiming the Gospel message. Use God’s Word to convey truth and bring clarity. Here are some key passages:
- John 14:6 (NLT): “Jesus told him, ‘I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one can come to the Father except through me.’”
- Romans 10:9-10 (NLT): “If you openly declare that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. For it is by believing in your heart that you are made right with God, and it is by openly declaring your faith that you are saved.”
- Ephesians 2:8-9 (NLT): “God saved you by his grace when you believed. And you can’t take credit for this; it is a gift from God. Salvation is not a reward for the good things we have done, so none of us can boast about it.”
4. Share with Boldness and Love
Proclaiming the Gospel isn’t about winning debates—it’s about leading others to Christ with compassion and truth.
- 1 Peter 3:15 (NLT): “Instead, you must worship Christ as Lord of your life. And if someone asks about your hope as a believer, always be ready to explain it. But do this in a gentle and respectful way.”
- Colossians 4:5-6 (NLT): “Live wisely among those who are not believers, and make the most of every opportunity. Let your conversation be gracious and attractive so that you will have the right response for everyone.”
Speak boldly but always with gentleness and respect, showing Christ’s love through your words and actions.
5. Trust God for the Results
Remember, it’s not your job to save anyone—that’s God’s work. Your role is to plant and water seeds of faith, trusting that God will give the increase.
- 1 Corinthians 3:6-7 (NLT): “I planted the seed in your hearts, and Apollos watered it, but it was God who made it grow. It’s not important who does the planting, or who does the watering. What’s important is that God makes the seed grow.”
Trust in God’s sovereignty and timing as you proclaim the Gospel message.
